Blue phlox and white foamflower form a mixed groundcover that hugs the edge of the West Slope Path. The West Slope Path gently curves downhill emerging through a wooded canopy to reveal the pond. Yellow bellworts, trilliums, and intricately-patterned ferns add to the herbaceous layer. Mature mountain laurel, rhododendrons, and American hollies are the backbone of the evergreen border.
